Youth Football Player Getting Ready For Game Time!

I live in Texas and have four boys who all play sports - maybe no surprise there. My parents moved to Colorado before any of my boys were born so when the oldest started playing tackle football at age eight, my folks were miles away and not able to be there. I should mention that growing up, my own dad’s involvement in my sports was really impacting (maybe for him as much for me). So like EVERY sports parent out in the world, I started filming my son’s youth football games. The problem (well - there were lots) we first ran into was the poorly striped grass fields and the difficulty watching the game and being able to identify what was going on. The solution was me “talking” through the film to add explanation to what was being shown. It worked. In fact, I was posting the games on my personal YouTube channel because the files were too large to send direct. Somehow, others on the team found out about it and became a bit enthralled and began pestering me as to when the next game was going to be uploaded. Thus began, Christopher Sports Announcing.

To date, it’s been going for nine years and I’ve discovered the value in it. There’s no comparison to watching a game with play by play and color commentary versus watching with no speaking soundtrack. Just try watching a football game on TV via the Sky Cam channel and you’ll see what I mean. Not only has it become a library for many people’s memories, it serves as an education tool for the games themselves. Over the years, I’ve had numerous coaches, players, grandparents and you name it inquire about some of the details to my setup, creativity, editing and otherwise. I’ve decided to share everything I can because everyone deserves to create memories without unintelligible screaming that you have to mute when watching the games back!
